For a cell, elasticity matters. Softwell® replicates a broad range of physiological tissue softness, from fat to cardiac muscle, so you can routinely venture beyond the rigidity of tissue culture plastic.

For stem cells, softness promotes self-renewal, maintains pluripotency and directs lineage specification.

What is Softwell®?

Softwell® is a range of tissue culture dishes in many different formats (petri dishes to 96 well plates, glass and plastic) covered in a thin layer of hydrogel of a defined elasticity, for 2D cell culture

Why is softness important?

The elasticity of the environment influences a cell's form and function. Cultured cells benefit from a surface that replicates the elasticity of their origin.  To provide the correct elasticity, Softwell® cell culture dishes and plates are coated in a thin layer of hydrogel of defined elasticity. Sofwell® products replicate the range of elasticities seen in the human body (0.1kPa - 100kPa). Softwell® plates are 2D cell cultures. For 3D cell culture, please see PeptiGel®
