1. Research Scientist - Biomaterials (KTP with Glasgow University)
The candidate will work on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership funded programme (http://ktp.innovateuk.org/) between the University of Glasgow and Cell Guidance Systems (https://www.cellgs.com/), aiming to transfer biomaterial production methodologies from the university into the industrial partner. Please note that this is a lab-based position. Furthermore, the selected candidate will primarily be based at Cell Guidance Systems at their premises at the Babraham Bioscience Campus, Cambridge, but will be required to intermittently visit the academic team at Glasgow University. Training will be provided from both the company and university teams, however, a generous budget is available for the candidate to pursue additional career development opportunities, such as external training courses.
Cell Guidance Systems provides products for in vitro cell culture and the candidate will be responsible for the development of new biomaterial products which incorporate Cell Guidance Systems’ Polyhedrin Delivery System (PODS®) system, a novel delivery technology for proteins. Candidates must demonstrate a capacity to meet both the technical and commercial targets of the KTP project and potential to lead on all aspects of biomaterial engineering within the company.
Applicants should have experience with in-vitro cell culture systems and biomaterial techniques such as hydrogels, 3D bioprinting, electrospraying, electrospinning or microcarrier based culture and experience using material based systems to deliver growth factors to cells. Their work will be closely aligned to the commercial interests of the company and they will work closely with the company’s R&D, sales and management staff taking a leading role in the delivery of new products. The successful candidate will also be expected to write reports on their studies and research papers during the course of the KTP.
Funding is available on a full-time basis (35 hours per week) and is available for up to 24 months in the first instance.
