EVlution^TM Pro: automated tangential flow filtration from CellGS

Cell Guidance Systems has launched EVlution^TM Pro, a benchtop tangential flow filtration (TFF) instrument for research that adds automated monitoring and control to the EVlution^TM hollow fibre cartridge system. The range launches with two models: EVlution^TM Pro 3, with a 6-sensor system, and EVlution^TM Pro 1, a 3-sensor system that can be upgraded to Pro 3 as needed.

How it works

EVlution^TM Pro 3 (pictured above) weighs the feed and permeate reservoirs continuously on two balances, while three pressure gauges read feed, retentate and permeate pressure. Temperature is also measured. All of the sensors report over Bluetooth to a dedicated control panel, which calculates transmembrane pressure (TMP) and permeability (Lp) as the run proceeds, logs the data, and raises alarms when readings move outside limits you set.

• Processes up to 3 L with 260 cm² cartridges, or up to 1 L with 94 cm² cartridges
• Takes the full EVlution^TM cartridge range, with a choice of ten pore sizes
• Supports Switch Flow^TM for final volumes below 5 mL
• The control panel lifts out of the housing and sits alongside the instrument, so EVlution^TM Pro can be run inside a flow cabinet
• Built-in barcode scanner for easy cartridge import and tracking
• Weighs around 8 kg, and the balance enclosures stack inside the main housing for compact storage
• Powder-coated aluminium housing, cleaned with a routine ethanol wipe-down

No routine servicing required

EVlution^TM Pro has been designed so that it does not need routine servicing. All components are small enough to post, so if one ever needs attention, it can simply be sent back to CellGS.

EVlution^TM Pro 1 and the upgrade path

EVlution^TM Pro 1 shares the same housing and control software as Pro 3. It has a single balance on the feed, so the starting volume is always known, and one pressure gauge that the user can assign to either the feed or the retentate. Because the hardware platform is the same, a Pro 1 can be upgraded to Pro 3 with an upgrade kit that adds the extra balance and gauges.
